A few weeks back, the folks at Smile Brilliant reached out to ask if I was interested in trying their professional teeth whitening system. At first, I wasn’t sure it quite fit with my travel theme. But I gave it some thought and knew I had upcoming trips to Belgium and Hawaii planned that I would be shooting a lot of content for and decided it was the perfect time for a whiter smile!
HOW IT WORKS
Smile Brilliant isn’t your average teeth whitener. Forget messy strips that don’t fit. This system includes custom fit trays and a professional level whitening product that produces noticeable results.
Your first kit will contain materials to create custom molds including putty, trays and step by step instructions as well as whitening and desensitizing gel. Once you’ve made your molds, place them in the pink envelope provided and drop it in the mail. When you receive your customized trays in a couple of weeks, you’re ready to start whitening!
Whitening is a two-step process that includes both whitening and desensitizing gel. The gels come in syringes which you dispense into your trays. It’s recommended that you whiten for 45 minutes to 3 hours followed by 15 to 20 minutes of the desensitizing gel. You can whiten every day or a few times a week depending on your tooth sensitivity. It’s that easy!
MY EXPERIENCE
One of the other reasons I was hesitant to try this system was not wanting to deal with a cumbersome product especially while traveling. Luckily, the kit is super compact so I could just throw it in my toiletry bag. And the process itself is easy to manage once you get the hang of it.
I was also nervous about experiencing tooth sensitivity, which is common. During my first session, I left the whitening gel on for 2 hours followed by 20 minutes of the desensitizing gel. That may sound like a long time, but I would use it close to bedtime while I was working on a blog post, editing photos or watching Game of Thrones! I was relieved that I only experienced minimal sensitivity and it has remained that way as I’ve continued to use the system
The results have been the best part! I had noticeably whiter teeth within the first week (as seen in the photo above) and it continues to improve with each use. I do have to mention that after my first session, I noticed some white patches on my teeth where the gel had gotten more concentrated. By the next day, those patches had faded and I noticed an even whiter smile. So, in case that happens to you, no need to freak out!
WHO IT’S FOR
Smile Brilliant is a professional level whitening system. If you’re generally happy with your smile and only occasionally use whitening products, this system probably isn’t for you. However, if you have a big event or trip coming up or the effects of wine, coffee and tea have started to build up and you’re serious about investing in a whiter smile, then Smile Brilliant is a great option. At $149 for the kit, it is a big investment. But when you compare the results you’ll get to the price you’d pay if you got your teeth professionally whitened by your dentist, it’s a great deal!
