1. TREE TOP TOUR
In addition to its famous sun drenched shores, Saint Lucia also offers lush rain forests. A unique way to experience the natural beauty is with a tree top tour. Several companies offer tours ranging in length. You can learn more about the various tours here, here and here.
2. BEACHES
Saint Lucia is known for its beautiful beaches. What distinguishes it from fellow tropical destinations is the variety it offers. Several well-known beaches include Reduit Beach, Sugar Beach and Jalouise, but there are also more secluded locales to discover. Anse Chastanet is a black sand beach nestled in a nature reserve. You’ll find superb snorkeling, walking trails and a quiet resort. Laborie is another great option if you’re looking for a more secluded beach experience.
3. CULTURAL EXPLORATION
To get a true feel for the Saint Lucian culture, spending time in the town of Castries is a must. During the day, the streets are buzzing with activity. Spend an afternoon browsing the local shops and street vendors. You’re sure to find the perfect souvenir while supporting the local economy.
4. LOCAL CUISINE
Saint Lucian cuisine is a fusion of East Indian, French and British influences. Staple dishes include meat stews, fresh fish dishes and rotis – think meat patty meets burrito.
If you find yourself in the town of Soufrière, you MUST pay a visit to Fedos. It is popular among locals and offers some of the best rotis in town.
Those looking for a home cooked meal are in luck. Liz of Liz Roti can be found strolling up and down Reduit beach selling her mouthwatering rotis with secret sauce. You can also enjoy a full home cooked dinner at Liz’s house. You can book dinner with Liz here.
5. WATERFALLS
If you tire of the sun and sand, there are a number of waterfalls to discover throughout the island. Two are conveniently located in the seaside town of Soufrière. We visited Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens and the Toraille Waterfall. Diamond is located inside a nature park along with a hot spring that is said to make bathers more youthful. Toraille is one of the smaller waterfalls, but it is only 10 minutes away from Diamond and visitors can actually swim there.
6. RIDE HORSES ON THE BEACH
For those looking for a bit of adventure, consider a beach side horse ride. Holiday Riding Stables offers a 2 hour tour that includes pick up and drop off at your hotel. Spend the day exploring the northern part of the island on horseback. Ask for Fidel!
