Summer is winding to an end, which means it’s essential to squeeze every last ounce of fun out of the season. If you find yourself in Brooklyn in August, the lively outdoor eatery, Nowadays, is the perfect place to spend a waning summer afternoon.
THE VIBE
Flanked by warehouses and an old railroad track, Nowadays is a little slice of happiness in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn. What was once an abandoned lot is now a vibrant open air space filled with colorful picnic tables, dance decks, ping pong tables, pulsating music and good times. All are welcome including pups!
It was previously a seasonal space, but a new, five thousand square foot indoor venue will open soon making Nowadays a go-to hangout year round.
THE DRINKS
Over at the “beach ball bar” you’ll find a wide selection of beers on tap as well as a variety of cocktails, wines and non-alcoholic options. I was torn between the Sangria and spiked lemonade!
Arrive between 4pm-7pm weekdays to take advantage of their happy hour – 2 for 1 on all cocktails, wine and select draft beers.
THE FOOD
The Nowadays menu is as fun and playful as the space itself, from Bloody Mary pickles to the Brooklyn Bangers Bratwurst. All items are served out of their on-site food truck.
Truthfully, I found the food to be a bit underwhelming especially considering the price. But what Nowadays lacks in culinary ability they make up for in ambiance!
EVENTS
Summers are busy at Nowadays with a different event held each evening.
