Do you ever feel as though you’re rushing through life and moving a mile a minute? We all juggle a lot at once and are constantly on the go, so every once in a while it’s necessary to take some time for ourselves to regroup. Below are the top 5 best places for getting centered.
1. JAMAICA
The motto of this island is “no problem” and once you arrive you instantly understand why. I had only planned to spend 3 days here to rejuvenate after my week in the French Riviera (ridiculous, I know). But I ended up extending my trip because it was just so relaxing! I stayed at the Riu Ocho Rios all-inclusive resort and spent my days splashing around in the warm Caribbean Sea. If you’re looking for complete relaxation, Jamaica is an excellent choice!
2. MILLER BEACH
Few may be familiar with this next one, which is unfortunate because Miller Beach just happens to be the best kept secret in Indiana. You’ll find this oasis in Gary, Indiana, yes you read that correctly! Situated on Lake Michigan, this quiet beach town is about 1 hour outside of Chicago. It’s where my mom grew up and where I spent my childhood summers playing in the dunes and waves with my Grandma. I’ve been to beaches all around the world and still put Miller Beach near the top of my list. It’s always a treat when I get a chance to return. As soon as that crisp lake air hits my face all my wonderful childhood memories come rushing back. If you ever find yourself in Northwest Indiana, do yourself a favor and check out this beautiful beach!
3. COSTA RICA
I personally find myself most at peace when I’m around water, but I realize some people enjoy a bit more adventure when they’re searching for zen. Costa Rica offers both beautiful beaches and endless activities. On my visit there, I enjoyed a little bit of both…a few lazy days on the black sand beach and a few exploring caves, hiking volcanoes and swimming in waterfalls. Those looking for a unique escape can find it in Costa Rica.
4. BRIGHTON BEACH
The crazy concrete jungle of New York can be overwhelming and down-right depressing at times, so every now and then it’s nice to escape it all. Luckily, I don’t have to go too far to do it! Brighton Beach is one of my favorite spots in the city. It sits on the edge of Brooklyn just a stone’s throw away from Coney Island. Staring out over the Atlantic, listening to the waves rush in with faint laughter and conversation from fellow beach goers in the background is better than any therapy session. After a day here I’m always refreshed and ready to take on the city again.
5. HOME
Getting centered doesn’t always require venturing off to an exotic location. Sometimes, it can be as simple as going back home. I spend much of my time living out of a suitcase and rarely know what my schedule will be from one month to the next. I’ve grown used to this crazy lifestyle, but sometimes it’s nice and necessary to return to the simple comforts of my hometown of Indianapolis. It is heaven when I get to just sit at the kitchen table with my mom, sip a glass of wine and catch up. Such moments are rare these days, but when they happen I always leave feeling comforted and renewed.
